From Cheshire, Karen, a birding widow and emminent
DP official, and Richard, birder extraordinaire and
customs officer in his spare time. Stayed here a week
and managed to see a Beach Thick Knees.
Rab (arguably the finest twitcher in the UK), Ali and Jenny - our first
family from Scotland. Our male cassowary appeared with his chicks on the day
you guys left - how sickening is that ?? Birding in Queensland can be so frustrating

Mike and Thora - Chelmsford's best known twitchers. Never
went anywhere without their binoculars (although Thora's seem to have momentarily
disappeared !!)

John and Carol from Burgess Hill. John is a serious
twitcher whose lifetime dream was fulfilled when he
saw Charlie and his two chicks. Carol gave us a few
songs from her Tapestry album

More twitchers from Burgess Hill, Dave and Brenda
- friends of John and Carol - apparently they have a
higher twitcher rating. Charlie came just as Dave was
tucking into his eggs and bacon.

Nicola and Andrew from Devon. Andrew is an ex-twitcher
who is now just an ordinary birder, and Nicola who has
(reluctantly) become a birder. Did you leave a camera
lens cap here ?? Birding in Queensland can be so exciting

From sunny Doncaster, Carol, a school Business
Manager, and Mark, a top flight lawyer and trainee birder,
relaxing in their favourite chairs, at the best Queensland birding Accommodation. |
From Buxton, a pair of head teachers - Jenny and Jeff. Jeff is the twitcher, and managed to see four different cassowaries whilst he was here, and Jenny is the long-sufering birding widow, but gets her own back by being a mad keen horsewoman for most of the year. |
From Forfar, Scotland (but originally from Nottinghamshire, where all the best people come from !!) -
a pair of 'amateur' birders John and Brenda. Privileged to see three different adult cassowaries whilst they were here. Both liked the gardens, but strangely didn't help me spread 10 cubic metres of soil on a hot November afternoon. |
From Verwood, Dorset, Nicky and Colin, an avid pair of birders, always up at the crack of dawn and in bed by 8:30. Stayed here three days and compiled a great list of birds, for which I am eternally grateful. And of course Cassie came at 1:15pm on the day you left !! |
From Cambridge, Eric and Sheila (although I suspect that Eric is more a birding widower), and Ann from Baydon. The girls were always on the upper verandah of the main house with binoculars glued to their eyes, whilst Eric did his duty and made copious pots of tea all day. |
From Metter, Georgia (our first guests from that state), Hugh and Sheryl. In between them are Roy and Helen from Brisbane. Roy and Helen run birdwatching tours - check out www.birdingservices.com.au Unfortunately didn't stay long enough to see one of our cassowaries - but hey, there's always next time. |
From Wool, Dorset - Eric and Pam on their first birding visit to Queensland, and from Crowthorne, Berks, Jenny and Trevor. They were greeted by Cassie and Charlie on their arrival, and they also came to say goodbye just as they were leaving - how about that !! |
From Houghton - Susan, the most renown micro-biologist in Michigan (also an expert on stinkhorns), Will, student and big breakfast eater, and Gil, the most respected mathematician in Michigan. Despite their combined super-talents, they failed the Licuala Lodge Rainforest Walk. |
