Please note that all the creatures found on the walk
are extremely well looked after and are happy in their surroundings. If you are the competitive type, take a note of your
start and end times and if you spot all the creatures your name could appear on
our website.
The start of the walk is situated behind the guest
rooms. From your room turn left, go down the stairs and follow the black gravel
path. You should see a Cassowary, 2 chicks, and 2 Frogs. If
you can’t see these then it is unlikely you will be able to spot the rest of the creatures. The path climbs to a height of almost 725 mm above the concrete gully. If
you feel this is too much for you, go and have a cup of tea/glass of wine/cold
beer instead.
As you enter the rainforest, there is a work in
progress compost heap on the left and several examples of the Caladium plant –
aka Elephant’s Ears.
In this section of the walk (up to the sharp left hand
corner), you should spot 2 squirrels, 1 Owl and 2 small Gnomes.
As you turn the corner the terrain descends gradually.
This is known locally as Snake and Spider Alley. Here you should find 2 large
Gnomes, 2 scary Spiders and 3 Snakes. If you find a fourth snake don’t touch it
!!
If you feel you have had enough, then turn left and
head back to the Lodge or go for a swim, otherwise turn right to continue the
walk (behind the pool). Here you should come across 2 small Gnomes and 1 large
Gnome.
Walk along a maze of gravel paths and a concrete gully where you should spot 1 large Gnome, 1 small Gnome ,1 Frog, 1 Santa up high and 1 Rhinoceros before you get to the bridge.
Take care crossing the bridge as there are no
handrails. As you pass the boggy swamp beware of the angry Tiger and the fierce Crocodile!
Follow the path, go through the gate and have a wander
in the fenced garden. Say hello to 1 large Gnome, 1 sheep, 2 Dinosaurs (Torosaurus and Stegosaurus), 1 Fish and
1 Giant Fly.
Have a well earned rest (and drink) in the pergola. ( Where you might spot a tall giraffe! )
