LICUALA LODGE - 11, Mission Circle, Mission Beach, Queensland 4852
Queensland Police are pretty hot on speeding, especially when entering and exiting small towns - be warned. Answer the questions correctly and you get an extra biscuit/muffin on arrival. The directions start from the big structure in the middle of the Bruce Highway that has Farewell (To Townsville) on it - northwest of the CBD. If coming from further South (say Airlie Beach) you do not have to go into Townsville - instead follow the signs for Ingham, and you will join these directions at the Bohle River.

Farewell to Townsville, immediately followed by a roundabout. In a short while you should notice a large white pipe that runs parallel to the road. I'm pretty sure it is some sort of water pipe. The visible part runs for about 50 kms. |

A set of totally useless traffic lights. Many ratepayers were not very happy at the local council spending a lot of money on these lights. One day I might understand how council makes decisions. If you do happen to turn left at these lights, you will eventually end up at Tully Gorge. Interestingly enough, there is a road sign on this road saying 'This is not the way to Townsville'.

As you may already know, there are lots of Big Things around Australia. Tully has got a big GUMBOOT. You can climb inside the gumboot (almost 8 metres) and you'll get a good view of Tully and the Sugar Mill. To get to the gumboot turn left at these traffic lights. Go over the railway and the creek (Banyan Creek). Tully Bowls Club is on the left and Tully Showground is on the right. The Sugar Mill is on the left and the Golden Gumboot is on the right at the crossroads. If you fancy yet another swimming hole, turn right just after Tully Showground - this takes you all the way to Alligator's Nest swimming hole (no, of course there are no alligators in the swimming hole. Would I tell you to swim in alligator-infested waters ?? Named after a local scout troop that used to camp there) - approx 6.8 kms.
